Potty Hiatus

Since my last post life in our house has changed quite a bit. I had every intention of sticking to the potty training plan, until........ the WORST cold ever hit our house. Ron has been sick for nearly two weeks already, then Naomi got it BAD. The poor girl has been coughing SO much in the past week. I took her to the doctors and they said that they think she has strep throat and the bad flu bug that is going around. So she has been on antibiotics for nearly a week. I hope she will get better soon because it is breakig my heart to see my baby girl in such pain!
Needless to say the potty training is on hold until she is feeling like herself again and the rest of us have beaten this flu bug into submission.

Potty Training Day 1

I have been thinking about getting Naomi potty trained before our next baby arrives. Now I know that we still have 18 weeks left before D day but I don't want Naomi is "regress" when the next baby comes. Plus, I can't deny that I don't want to change two sets of diapers!
This morning I decided that enough was enough. Naomi seems to be displaying many signs that she is ready.
1) Has words for pee, poo, diaper, and toilet
2) Knows where the potty is and what it is for
3) Can follow instructions
4) Dislikes being dirty
5) Shows interest in what happens in the bathroom
6) Dislikes having her diaper changed
7) Has consistant bowel movements
I sure hope that she is as ready as I think. The last thing I want to do is to push her to much so that she become resistant. I am staying really positive when I talk to her about using the potty and including lots of praise when she sits on the potty even for a few minutes.
This morning was a good start. She had two pee accidents, but she also sat on the potty 4 times. She didn't actually pee, but we read a potty book and practiced wiping and washing our hands.
Does anyone have any suggestion on how to make this process go smoothly?
We'll se how the rest of today and tommorow goes.

A Backward Glace at 2008

I suppose New Years day would not be complete without a look back at the year that has past. Here is a brief recap of the last year.

January 08 - We said "goodbye for now" to my Opa. It is hard to believe that it has been an entire year that he has been gone. We still miss him, and I am sure we always will. The family just does not seem complete without him around.

February 08 - Our little girl got to celebrate her first Valentines Day. The love we have for her is hard to put into words.

March 08 - Naomi turns ONE! She was so sick on the day of her party, but she was a trooper. We had a great day celebrating with lots of family and friends.

April 08 - I was working full time in Langley for BDO and Naomi was being cared for by our dear friend Victoria.

May 08 - I am back at home full time with Naomi and loving every momment.

June 08 - Naomi fell and got her first stiches. Right in the middle of her forehead! Thankfully the scar is almost completely gone.

July 08 - We went on our annual Klassen family trip to Penticton at the begining of the month and our annual Penner family trip to Hope at the end of the month. We had a great time enjoying our time together.

August 08 - We celebrated our 5 year anniversary with a wonderful weekend getaway.

September 08 - Naomi is 18 months old, and we find out that our family of three will soon be a family of four. Baby #2 is on the way!

October 08 - Our days are filled with reading books together and playing with toys. Naomi loves to dance and listen to music. For halloween Naomi dressed up as the cutest little ladybug around.

November 08 - I participated in NaBloPoMo this month and I have still not recovered :). My niece Kayla turned one and now the girls are playing together more.

December 08 - Two words : Chirstmas and Snow!
"To laugh often and much, to win
the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false
friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, or a garden patch... to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This
is to have succeeded!" - Emerson
